Thermal - Economics

Commercial - The cost of a commercial solar water heating system can be very variable depending on site specific factors and so it’s best to ask Norfolk Solar for a no obligation survey and quotation.

Domestic - A typical domestic solar water heating system is likely to cost between £4000 and £6000 depending on size, the type of hot water cylinder used (i.e. whether it is a vented or mains pressure cylinder) and other factors. VAT is payable at 5% for domestic customers and the normal rate for businesses.

Solar Water Heating Savings - Solar water heating systems produce financial savings in the form of reduced fuel bills. A system will save your boiler having to heat a significant amount of water every year – we will estimate this saving for you at the quotation stage.

The savings are greater where more expensive heating fuels are displaced such as electricity, oil or liquid petroleum gas.

Solar Water Heating - Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

Commercial - For commercial systems under 200 kWt (about 285 m² of flat plate collectors) the RHI Phase 1 (the commercial incentive) currently pays 10.16 pence per kWh which is index linked over a 20 year period. Incentive reductions are not applied to existing systems. This is a generous incentive which makes a SWH system a compelling investment for businesses that consume energy for hot water production.

Domestic - The Renewable Heat Incentive is the tariff payable for each kWh of energy from domestic solar hot water systems which is currently 19.51 pence, and will be payable for a period of seven years.

Both phases of the Renewable Heat Incentive will be administered by Ofgem
